Chagford v Whitchurch seconds
THE Whitchurch Wayfarers second team picked up their second win of the season in an enthralling encounter at Chagford.
Electing to bat first Credicott (42) and Dunne (10) put on 82 in an opening partnership that gave a solid foundation. Brijnath (2 for 14) and an excellent spell from young Adam Barclay (2-40) put the brakes on and Whitchurch stumbled. With the score 112-5 and overs running out it was left to in form Tamblin (49 not out) and Kerswill (23) to break the shackles and push the score through to 184.
Chagford’s top order all got going but none went on to make a match defining score. Sampson (30) was the pick of the bunch until he was bowled around his legs by McKenzie-Smith (1-33).
At 105-4 the home side were ahead of the run rate and a 50 run partnership between Stanbury (31) and Ridgers put the home side in the driving seat. Webber (3-36) and a tight spell from Kerswill (1-23) coupled with outstanding fielding by Dave Northey turned the game.
The required run rate started to climb and the pressure converted into wickets. Marais (2-11) mopped up the tail and Whitchurch scraped home by four runs.
This was a tight game where the sportsmanship exhibited by both sides was exemplary.
