Whitchurch seconds v Hatherleigh thirds
WHITCHURCH seconds delivered an excellent team performance in defeating promotion chasing Hatherleigh.
Skipper Webber won the toss and elected to bowl on a pitch that offered a bit to the bowlers. This decision was vindicated with three early wickets; two for Andy Hall and one for Phil Mckenzie, the latter dismissing Forgham for 26 by way of a stumping from Credicott – not that the keeper knew anything about it!
Pyle (19) and Quick (24) steadied the Hatherleigh ship and allowed Greenwood and Floyer to add useful runs.
The Whitchurch bowling dropped off a bit, Webber the pick of the rest with 2-41, including a more conventional stumping. Greenwood completed his half century, while Floyer was unbeaten on 27 with Hatherleigh posting 186-8.
The Whitchurch reply was built on the solid foundations of Dunne (18) and Credicott.
Sixty seven was added for the first wicket, when Dunne was bowled by Greenwood. Credicott then followed in the next over for 38. Kerswill (28) and Tyler Hunt batted sensibly picking off the bad balls.
At 122-3, Whitchurch could have wobbled but old heads on the young shoulders of Hunt and Ord ensured a smooth passage.
Ord was unbeaten on 18, while Hunt completed his half century by despatching the match winning runs over the fence for six.
