OKEHAMPTON Table Tennis Club hosted the 18th annual challenge match on July 13, which saw travelling table tennis players from Poole visit the club for a friendly, yet competitive day of table tennis.

The annual Okehampton vs Poole club challenge was eventually won by worthy winners Poole, who were awarded with the Ron Venton Memorial Trophy, successfully retaining their title from last year.

The club look forward to the return trip to Poole next year.

However, off the table, the day also marked a very special occasion for Okehampton player Ken Underhill, who celebrated his 90th birthday.

Ken is the longest serving member of the table tennis club in Okehampton, dedicating much of his time in serving the club, volunteering and competing in local leagues.

After a highly enjoyable day of table tennis, to congratulate and thank Ken the club proudly celebrated the special occasion by presenting him with a birthday cake.

Okehampton Table Tennis Club secretary Naomi Jackson said: ‘From everyone at Okehampton Table Tennis Club and also on behalf of the Poole Table Tennis Club we would like to wish Ken a very happy birthday!
