OKEHAMPTON RFC was pleased to host a rugby training camp for junior players from 6 to 16 years of age, where the coaching was provided by the Exeter Chiefs as part of their community rugby programme.

Marc Dibble, the Exeter Chiefs community development officer came to the club along with fellow coaches Mark Lowe, Lewis Webb and Tom Viljon. The coaches organised the activities for almost 60 children who attended the day. Youngsters from Okehampton and district and from as far away as Bideford took part.

The camp was intended to give the boys – and a few girls – some coaching in basic rugby skills while having a great deal of fun taking part in the activities. The children learned the latest techniques from the cutting edge of the game and were encouraged to do their best by the professional coaches.

Okehampton club secretary Dave Potter said: 'The coaches did a fantastic job, holding the interest of the children with their leadership and drawing the best from them. To hold the attention of nearly 60 lively children for that length of time takes real skill and the coaches did an excellent job. The activities centered on skills training with the ball in hand and but were also fun to take part in.'

Marc Dibble thanked all the participants for their efforts and attention throughout the day and the Okehampton club for providing the facilities to help make the day a success.

The children thanked the coaches for their efforts.
