Caradon ladies thirds 2
Okehampton ladies’ thirds 0
THE Okehampton Hockey Club ladies third team travelled to Cornwall on Saturday to take on Caradon third team in the league.
Earlier in the season Okehampton had narrowly won the home fixture so they were expecting an evenly matched game.
Oke attacked from the start with central attacker Ellie Shayler putting the ball through to forwards Viv Weatherington and Sandy Houston, who were unlucky not to convert this pressure into goals.
The first half was a fast moving game with the ball going at pace from end to end testing both team’s fitness and support play but neither side could get the ball into the net.
Early in the second half Oke were awarded a penalty corner which just slipped wide of the goal post. Caradon then increased the tempo of their game passing the ball swiftly up the pitch and scored their first goal from a lightening deflection, which found the corner of the Oke goal.
The home team increased their lead when an unmarked attacker picked up the ball in front of the Oke goal and slipped it into the corner.
Oke fought back determined to get onto the scoresheet. Joey Drake spread the ball wide from deep in the Oke half encouraging her team to attack down the wings but Caradon marked the Oke forwards tightly denying them the chance to score.
