AN impressive number of 12 runners from Okehampton Running Club completed marathons on the same day at Taunton and Brighton.

The six who went to the 32nd running of Taunton Marathon found conditions challenging in the windy weather, with the 26.2 mile route out of the city and along undulating country lanes and hills in the countryside.

Andy Vallance has been training specifically for this event and put in a terrific run to finish in third overall place in 2 hours 50 minutes 31 seconds. This time qualifies him to take part in next year's London Marathon.

Other ORC times: Nick Seccombe 3.17.51, Roger Voaden 3.29.25, Rob Kelly 3.29.51, Stuart May 3.39.04, Deborah Cunningham 4.25.15. Half marathon, Chris Aylen 1.57.22.

The sun shone for the Brighton Marathon, an event which has grown rapidly since its inception in 2010 to become one of the top 12 running events in the UK with 18,000 runners. Dave Mugliston was the first for ORC to finish in a PB time of 3.30.53 and there were PBs too for Jo Camies and Keri Quertier.
