Okehampton A 3
Taunton Vale 0
IT was all hands to the pumps to get this game on as the pitch was covered with snow, but thanks to the players and some of the spectators the snow was cleared and the game went ahead.
Confidence breeds success and following last weeks away win another would see the Okehampton A had a chance of moving off the foot of the table.
Captain and man of the match Brett Lawson changed the formation to press Taunton high up the pitch and from the start Luxton broke free but failed to lift the ball over the advanced Taunton keeper.
More pressure in the form of Stuart Jarvis saw him clean through, his first shot was well saved and this rebound was then stopped on the line by the Taunton defender. The penalty flick was taken by Luxton but it sailed high over the bar. Despite this early set back Okehampton pressed again and soon they got their reward as Lawson played in Jake Lloyd who placed his shot into the corner of the goal.
Okehampton had good chances to increase their lead but failed to make the killer pass when needed.
Changes at half time saw John Jarvis replaced by Alex Osman in a defence that was rarely threatened all game. Tim Morgan had another steady game at centre half and was supported well by Scot Bending and Simon Bourne. Zac Middleton still displaying the battle scars from last weeks broken nose again worked well with Mark Bingham at the back.
The second half followed the pattern of the first and Oke pressed high and soon went 2-0 after Jarvis found Luxton who picked out Jack Watson on the back post who slotted home from close range. It was his third goal in two games and his all round play was again excellent.
Okehampton were dominating now and Taunton were running out of steam. Chris Luxton was forcing the Taunton defence further back the pitch, and on many occasions he pulled the ball back to the penalty spot but the home side could not capitalise. The game was put beyond Taunton when Cockayne combined well with Lloyd who got his second of the game.
This was probably Hayden Bond's most comfortable game in goal and he was pleased to keep a clean sheet.
The three points mean that Okehampton still have a chance to avoid being relegated.
