TWO hundred and thirty year 4 children from Tavistock, Lamerton, Whitchurch, Gulworthy, Bere Alston, Milton Abbot, St Andrew’s, Mary Tavy and Brentor, Meavy and Lady Modiford’s took part in a multi-skills day at Tavistock Rugby Club.

The weather was damp with some heavy showers but this did not spoil the fun for these children.

Outside, Whitchurch Wayfarers Cricket Club development officer, Robert Powell led a session in throwing towards a wicket; Corey and Ryan from OCRA taught football skills, Martin Exley-Deane from Tavistock Athletics Club had the children running and jumping and Clive Marais improved the childrens’ rugby skills.

Inside, there was Vicki of OCRA leading gymnastics activities, Alan Berry of Tavyside Badminton Club introducing the children to badminton; Gemma of OCRA running a bean bag throwing competition and a big surprise for all the attendees – a bucking bronco, which was a replacement for the inflatable obstacle course which could not be brought because it was too wet.

Mhairi McCall, from organisers OCRA, said: ‘A good time was had by all the year 4 children, despite the poor weather.’
