Okehampton Ladies 3

Caradon Ladies 0

After the frustration of last week's cancelled fixture due to a frozen pitch Okehampton ladies' hockey first team were raring to play.

Initially the teams were evenly matched with exciting end to end hockey.  It was Oke who eventually broke the deadlock when they won possession deep in their own half.  A quick pass went to captain and player of the match Kim Davey who then moved the ball on to find Jo Moppett in space; Moppett used her quick stick skills to wrong foot the Caradon defender and slot the ball into the goal.

Oke were inspired by this goal and piled the pressure on the Caradon defence. Their creative possession game let to a long, rocket like cross in front of goal from Davey which Hannah Whiteley smashed into the back of the goal.

After half time Caradon stepped up their game.  Oke midfielder Jo Drake had an outstanding game man-marking Caradon's dangerous central striker, using her speed and strong tackling to prevent any solo goals.  Oke's central defender Carol Taylor organised her defensive players well under several Caradon attacks to ensure the opposition did not score.

Oke's third goal came after another outstanding run from Moppett.  She was hounded down the back line by the Caradon defenders but slipped the ball up to the penalty spot where Lesley Bingham was perfectly placed to slot the ball into the net.

Caradon fought back again pressurising Oke in their own circle and forcing several penalty corners.  Again the Oke defence was strong to keep out the visitors out.
