Okehampton U13s 0
Plymstock U13s 55
ON a slippery pitch at home this week Okehampton gave a warm welcome to Will, who made a significant contribution to the rugby team.
Plymstock chalked-up the first try, 20 seconds after kick-off, taking full advantage of Oke’s weak line maintenance. After a brutal tackle from Rene, Plymstock were caught offside and Tom gained some good ground for Oke before being pushed out.
Later in the first half, Okehampton kept up intense pressure and through some speedy, skilful rucking and tackling from Luca, Lewis, Luke, Oli, Tyler, Nathan and Sam, the ball crept to the Plymstock line on several occasions, but never quite made it close enough to ground. Okehampton spent the majority of the game in defence mode, with great defiance and determination and some outstanding efforts from some of the less experienced players.
Luca, Luke, Sam and Nathan constantly hounded the opposition with chases and tackles; some stubborn drives from Luke, Nathan,Tyler Isaac and Marcus kept regaining a bit more pitch; there were some dazzling and opportunistic runs from Harry, Rene, Marcus and Tom.
Other Oke highlights included a bit of quick-thinking from Luca, who snatched the ball from a Plymstock chip and later helped Tom drive the ball out, and Rene when he unluckily missed a pass, deftly took out the player who caught it with a swift tackle and regained the ball for the Okes.
It was a tough game for Oke but their strong defensive attitude definitely hindered Plymstock’s progress to limit the damage to the scoreline. Morgan’s effective tackling earned him Oke’s player of the week award.
