A RECORD entry of 14 schools and 220 athletes took part in the West Devon Primary Schools Quad Kids event at Tavistock Track.
The four disciplines of 75 sprint, standing long jump, vortex throw and 600m run were fiercely contested with Saul Jackson-Clist winning the boys’ 75 metre sprint in a time of 11.2 secomds and the standing long jump with a jump of 2.18m. Billy Tizard of Okehampton won the 600 metre run in 2.02mins and Marcus Edwards of Lamerton and Jack Brijnath of South Tawton threw the vortex a distance of 31 metres to gain equal first place.
In the girls’ competition Niamh Grimshaw of Okehampton and Louisa Lynn of South Tawton were equal first in the 75m sprint with a time of 11.4s. Ruby Stacey of Mary Tavy and Brentor and Izzy Page of Meavy ran 600metres in 2.07m and Niamh then won the Girls’ vortex event with a throw of 23.25m.

In the team com-petition Okehampton and South Tawton dominated the proceedings with small schools Lewtrenchard, Mary Tavy and Brentor and Meavy close behind. Tavistock schools, Tavistock, St Peter’s and St Andrew’s, had all their year 6 pupils on residential trips but sportingly brought younger pupils to the event.
The top ten teams were: 1, Okehampton A, 1,458 points; 2, South Tawton A, 1,416; 3, Lewtrenchard, 1,333; 4, Mary Tavy and Brentor, 1,325; 5, Meavy, 1,310; 6, St Peter’s, 1,309; Whitchurch A, 1,240; 7, Hatherleigh A, 1,222; 8, St Andrew’s A, 1,165; 9, Okehampton B, 1,138.
