At Okehampton Smallbore Club's annual dinner, club treasure Bernard Rendle was presented with his 1,000th Devon Winter League card by Cian Healey, OSC's youngest member. Bernard's card was framed and signed by all the club members in recognition of his amazing achievement. The maximum that can be shot is one card a week, for 18 rounds (weeks) each winter, so it has taken Bernard over 55 years of shooting to accomplish. And in all those years, Bernard has not missed a single round — which is quite incredible. At the dinner, county and club trophies and medals were presented to winners of all the disciplines to mark the end of a successful and enjoyable season of target shooting for Okehampton's Smallbore Club members, who have been competing nationally, for the county and within the club, both as individuals and in teams. The OSC's rifle champion was Paul Batten, who also won the Hain Cup and the Vice President's Cup. This was a great season's shooting for Paul, as when competing in county competitions as an individual, Paul also won the top diivision one of both the Devon individual and the North Devon individual competitions and during the North Devon individual Paul had the incredible achievement of scoring an average of 99.8, having shot the maximum 100 eight times out of ten! Also in county rifle competitions, John Chiverton won division three of the Devon Individual and Peter Blake was the winner of The Devon Individual division eight. Within the OSC's Rifle discipline, The Scawen Shield for the handicap pairs knockout competition was won by the team duo of Laurence Bennie and Martin Elliott. The Founders Cup for the individual handicap knockout was won by Graham Spier. The Kirkpatrick Cup, for the shooter whose last 3 cards of 10 competition cards were the best, was won by Martin Elliott; his wife Amanda won the George Hooper Cup and was thrilled to also win the Twinning Tankard for the best improver over the year. OSC had a superb result in the county competition of Devon Skurmish; this combines both timed accuracy and speed over a number of cards. Paul Batten won division one, Richard Miles won division two and Martin Elliott won division three. Richard Miles also won the Handicap Elliott Skurmish Tankard. Husband and wife Dave and Carole Saunders have had a good season, as Carole was club champion in the bench rest, having scored the maximum 100 five times during the series of 12 cards; she also was fourth in the top division one in the county competition, where she came fourth overall. Carole's husband Dave was club champion in the lightweight sporting rifle discipline and the LSR Handicap Trophy was won by Vince Floyd. In the air pistol discipline, club champion at 20 yards was Gorgs Geikie and Peter Paterson won the Frank Yeo Trophy. The 10 metre air pistol club champion was Sarah Prescott, who also won its handicap competition; the 10 metre air rifle club champion was Steve Lloyd. The club is delighted to have done well in national and county team rifle competitions this year. The National League division 20 was won by the team of Paul Batten, Ivan Trickey, Stuart Bennie, Martin Elliott and Graham Spier – a wonderful achievement. The North Devon League division two was won by the OSC's B team of Laurence Bennie, Dave Denford, Stuart Bennie and Ivan Trickey. The OSC's D team of Peter Paterson, Graham Spier, Peter Blake and Amanda Elliott were thrilled to have won division three. In the Devon Winter League, OSC's B team of Ivan Trickey, Stuart Bennie, Martin Elliott, Steve Cook and Graham Spier were second. Amanda Elliot, a spokesperson for the club, said: 'This has been a successful season for OSC and members are keen to build on and develop their skills, under the knowledgeable eye of trainer Paul Batten. Everyone is aiming even higher for next season!'
