SIX large schools and four small schools took part in the annual Tavistock Area Primary Schools Netball Festival, hosted by Tavistock College and its excellent and willing young sports leaders.
The weather was appalling with heavy showers scattered throughout the morning but the spirited youngsters from Lamerton, Meavy, Milton Abbot, Lew Trenchard, Tavistock, Horrabridge, St Peter’s, Whitchurch, St Andrew’s and Bere Alston kept going and produced some good netball.
The team from Bere Alston Primary were the stars of the large schools tournament, winning all their games and scoring maximum points. They received the gold medals with Horrabridge and Whitchurch having to be split on goals scored when they both ended up on the same amount of points. Horrabridge were runners up by scoring one more goal than Whitchurch.
All three teams will go through to the West Devon finals, to be held on February 8 at Okehampton College.
Lew Trenchard shone in the small schools’ competition but due to not being in the Tavistock area, second placed Lamerton were declared the heat winners and will represent the Tavistock Area small schools at the West Devon finals.
