IT was second time lucky for horse endurance rider Trena Brock from Hatherleigh at the Golden Horseshoe ride on Exmoor.

After having to withdraw two days before the ride last year Trena and her nine year old grey Arab gelding Sahir Kashmir rode to success this year by picking up a bronze award. The Golden Horseshoe is held over three days and is recognised as one of the toughest ride in the UK.

Horse and rider were entered in the two day 75 miles class — 50 miles on day one and 25m on day 2. Despite the rain and cold and a total riding time of 11 hours in the saddle Trena was one of only three to finish in her class.

Trena said it was a great achievement as it was her horse's first attempt in any class at the Horseshoe Ride. They not only received the bronze award but also received the Saillard Fuller Bronze Trophy and the top farriers award for the best shod horse from more than 60 horses.
